Tasnim – The spokesman for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) highlighted Iran’s self-sufficiency in the military sphere and said the “most outstanding achievements” of the country have been made in the defense sector that has been the target of the most severe sanctions.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, General Ramezan Sharif pointed to the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and said, “In the past forty years, despite enemy plots and conspiracies, our nation has managed to make progress, in addition to defeating the enemy, under the leadership of Imam Khomeini (RA) and Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei).”
“All these advances were made under the enemy’s heavy sanctions that have existed since the beginning of the revolution,” he noted.
Since the outset of the revolution, the most severe sanctions have targeted the area of defense, the spokesman said.
“And we have had the most outstanding achievements in this very area of defense and military, which is acknowledged by the friends and enemies of the revolution,” he added.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.
Back in February 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.
“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on February 18.
