Zarif back home from Iraq

IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif returned home from a five-day official visit to Iraq late on Thursday.

On the results of his trip to Iraq, he said, Our ties with Iraq are not artificial. We are brothers and this is the longest foreign visit I have had so far and this is indicative of special ties between the two nations and countries.

I had good talks with the officials and businessmen in the cities of Baghdad, Erbil, Soleimanieh, Karbala and Najaf, he said.

Noting that there are numerous areas of cooperation between the two countries, Zarif said that Iran is fully ready to reciprocally revoke visas, reduce or eliminate customs tariffs and establishment of industrial townships in border points in a bid to help boost collaboration.

I am sure that Iran-Iraq relations have bright future, he said.

Iranian and Iraqi nations bonds are historical and cultural, as their youth bloods have mingled in the fight against terrorism, Zarif said, noting it's for the same reason that no power can separate the two nations from each other.

Others have come to the region one day and they will leave another day. What will remain are regional nations, Zarif said.
