Iran, Afghanistan kick off talks on Helmand water right

MNA – The 19th Joint Committee of Commissars of Helmand water kicked off in Tehran, on Saturday.

The meeting kicked off this morning in Iranian Ministry of Energy, aiming to address issues related to water right under 1973 Helmand River Treaty, and talks are underway for better implementation of the treaty.

The two sides have presented their negotiators at the level of deputy ministers for the first time, through diplomatic coordination.

The 19th Joint Committee of Commissars of Helmand water has been operating under 1973 Helmand River Treaty, and so far 18 meetings have been held alternately in Iran and Afghanistan.
