Russia stresses implementation of Iran nuclear deal

IRNA – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Friday underlined implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)

Russia considers a situation in which Iran’s interests from the JCPOA implementation is guaranteed, Ryabkov said on Friday.

He said that a mechanism should be drawn up for cooperation to prevent the effect of US sanctions on Iran.

The US President Donald Trump announced early May that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions which had been lifted under the accord.

The first round of the sanctions snapped back into place in August, with the second round which will aim the energy and oil sector taking effect on November 5.

This is while other signatories to the deal (i.e. Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia) have thus far criticized Washington’s unilateral move and have repeatedly stressed their commitment to the deal.
