Light quake jolts south Iran

IRNA - An earthquake, measuring 4 on the Richter scale, shook Ahel in Iran's southwestern province of Fars.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 22:45 hours local time (19:15 GMT) on Thursday at the depth of 19 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 27.04 degrees longitude and 53.90 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to property.

Ahel is a town in Eshkanan District, Lamerd County in Fars Province.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.

On November 12, 2017, a fatal 7.3-measuring earthquake hit the provincial city of Salas Babajani killing 620 people and injuring about 12,000 others.
