Trump: US shouldn't be the policeman of the Middle East - We get 'NOTHING'

Haaretz - The U.S. decision to withdraw from Syria will allow Islamic State to regroup at a critical stage in the conflict, Washington's Kurdish partners said on Thursday, after Western allies expressed alarm at the sudden move.

Trump tweeted on Thrusday that, "Getting out of Syria was no surprise. Ive been campaigning on it for years, and six months ago, when I very publicly wanted to do it, I agreed to stay longer. Russia, Iran, Syria & others are the local enemy of ISIS. We were doing there work. Time to come home & rebuild. #MAGA"

Trump added, "Does the USA want to be the Policeman of the Middle East, getting NOTHING but spending precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting others who, in almost all cases, do not appreciate what we are doing? Do we want to be there forever? Time for others to finally fight....."

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said President DonaldTrump's withdrawal of all U.S. troops would also leave Syrians stuck between "the claws of hostile parties" fighting for territory in the seven-year-old war.

Trump's announcement on Wednesday upended a central pillar of American policy in the Middle East and stunned U.S. lawmakers and allies, who challenged the president's claim of victory.
