Secretary Pompeo is far too forgiving of the Saudis

The Wall Street Journal - There is nothing at all pragmatic about providing a blank check to a partner that continues to commit major mistakes.

In The U.S.-Saudi Partnership Is Vital (op-ed, Nov. 28), Secretary of State Mike Pompeos claims that without U.S. efforts, the death toll in Yemen would be far higher. The secretary seems to think this is exculpatory.

In reality, its nothing short of an indictment. In writing it, he implies that the Saudi and Emirati led coalition is so callous to Yemeni suffering and so uninterested in international law that, were it not for Washingtons calming hand, the coalitions bombardments would be even more indiscriminate and its aid restrictions even more draconian.
