Iran allocates $3.5 bln for medicine, medical equipment imports

Tasnim An Iranian official said budget allotment for the import of pharmaceutical and medical products is in progress without any trouble, saying $3.5 billion has been disbursed so far.

Head of Irans Food and Drug Administration Gholam Reza Jafari said there is no problem in the process of allocation of funds forimportingpharmaceutical material and medical equipment.

He said a sum of $2 billion has been allotted to the supply of medicine and basic pharmaceutical material, and $1.5 billion in funds has been disbursed for the import of medical equipment.

In a provisional verdict in October, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the US government should lift all bans on the free export of humanitarian goods like food and medicine to Iran which have been re-imposed after Washingtons withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The ICJ, which is based in The Hague and is also known as the World Court, is the United Nations tribunal for resolving international disputes. Iran's filing asks the ICJ to order the United States to provisionally lift its sanctions ahead of more detailed arguments.
