Quake-hit areas to be rebuilt soon: Veep

IRNA Irans First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri said on Thursday that the areas ruined in the wake of last Sunday's devastating earthquake will be rebuilt in two months and before approach of the cold season.


Unfortunately, the recent earthquake incurred heavy damage to the people in different cities of Kermanshah province, including Sar Pol-e-Zahab, Qasr-e Shirin, Gilan-e-Gharb, Eslamabad-e Gharb. The government will be beside the people until the full rebuilt of the residential units in the quake-stricken areas in Kermanshah province, western Iran, he said.

Jahangiri arrived in Kermanshah on Thursday morning to receive first-hand account of the relief and rescue operations in the quake-stricken areas.

A 6.4-magnitude quake, followed by at least 160 aftershocks, rocked the western province of Kermanshah early Sunday, with its epicenter being 17 km away from Sar Pol-e Zahab. It injured 729 people and killed no one.

Nearly one year ago, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit the Kermanshah Provinces Ezgeleh region in western Iran on November 12, 2017, killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.

The earthquake damaged 10 cities and 1,930 villages of the province and about 100,000 residential units.

Iran is located on major seismic faults and experiences an earthquake a day on average.
