US-led coalition strikes kill 11 Syrian civilians in Dayr al-Zawr

Press TV - At least 11 civilians, mostly women and children, have lost their lives and dozens more have been wounded when the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group bombarded residential areas in Syrias embattled eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.

Local sources, requesting anonymity, told Syrias official news agency SANA on Friday that the airstrikes pounded multiple parts of the village ofal-Shafa inthe east of the flashpoint province, adding that three women and five children were among the victims.

The report further said that the death toll could rise as some of the wounded were in critical conditiondue to the intensity of the aerial aggression.

On November 17, the so-called military coalition killed at least 40 people after its warplanes struckthe village of al-Buqa'an on the outskirts of Hajin town in the same province, leaving dozens more wounded.

On November 13, the Syrian Ministryof Foreign Affairs andExpatriates condemned a recent airstrike by the US-led coalition againstthe eastern town of al-Shaafah, which left more than 60 people dead and injured, arguing that the massacre clearly pointed to the fact that members of the military alliance had no respect for moral values, international rules and regulations besides the lives of innocent civilians.

The ministry, in two separate letters, addressed to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the rotating president of the UN Security Council Ma Zhaoxu, called on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and stop US-led aerial assaults.

Furthermore, the US-led coalition has in multiple occasions used internationally-banned white phosphorus munitions in bombing raids across the province, particularly the town of Hajin, located some 110 kilometers east of the provincial capital city of Dayr al-Zawr.

In June last year,Human Rights Watch warnedthat the US-ledcoalition was deploying white phosphorous bombs in both Iraq and Syria.

The US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against what are said to be Daesh targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.

The military alliance has repeatedly been accused of targeting and killing civilians. It has also been largely incapable of achieving its declared goal of destroyingDaesh.
