Sukhoi civil aircraft to consider supplies to Iran after components substitution



Sputnik The Russian company Sukhoi Civil Aircraft will return back to the issue of supplies of Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) jets to Iran after the share of US components in the plane sinks to less than 10 percent, the firms president, Alexander Rubtsov, said on Thursday.




The two countries signed memorandums ofunderstanding inApril onthe sale of40 SSJ-100s by2022 butthe US decision tore-impose sanctions onIran made it hard forRussia toobtain US-made components forthe jets. On October 23, Iranian Ambassador toRussia Mehdi Sanaei said that Iran was not losing a hope tobuy the SSJ-100 planes.

"We have firmly decided todeny supplies ofjets toIran underthe current circumstances when 22 percent ofthe [jets] equipment is produced inthe United States When we reach the level ofless than10 percent, we will return back tothis issue," Rubtsov said ata press conference duringthe BIAS-2018 airshow inBahrain.








The SSJ100 is a twin-engine plane made byRussia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company. It can carry upto 98 passengers and fly ata distance ofup to2,470 miles. The jet made its maiden flight inMay 2008.
