Tasnim � Iran�s new Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami reiterated the country�s unwavering policy to interact with the international community and said the Islamic Republic is strongly opposed to unilateralism.


Addressing a ceremony held in the Algerian embassy in Tehran on Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary of the North African country�s independence, Eslami said the Islamic Republic has always supported peace and stability in the region and the world.

Iran believes that security should be provided for all countries without discrimination, within the framework of collective cooperation and multilateralism on the international scene, he added.

�The security of one or more countries cannot be achieved through the insecurity of other countries,� he said, adding, �That is why we strongly oppose unilateralism, sanctions, and imposition of views in line with the interests of a country or a small number of countries.�

The remarks seemed to refer to the unilateral moves by the US government in the face of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, the nuclear deal that was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.

He said the US policy is to levy �maximum economic pressure� on the country.

The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect on November 5.
