Russia firm in working with Iran: Spox

IRNA Spokeswoman of Russia's Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said her country is determined to strengthen cooperation with Iran.

Zakharova told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that cooperation with Iran is valuable to Russia and Moscow has declared its stance on unilateral sanctions against other countries.

Russia sees the decisions made by the United Nations Security Council as a basis for adopting policies, and in other cases the country's interests and mutually beneficial cooperation would form the basis of its approach, according to the spokeswoman.

'The countries that unilaterally impose sanctions are those that claim to support human rights, economic development and democracy, but in practice they are far from their ideals,' she said.

Describing the anti-Iran sanctions as blatant violation of law, standards and principles of international relations, Zakharova said, 'The stances of Russia on the issue is clear to everybody, and it does not have to do only to Iran, rather Moscow has the same stance on unilateral sanctions against other countries.'

Russia would not only comply with the sanctions, but also it sees the measures unlawful, she said.

The sanctions are not rational, and destabilize the world, she said, adding that it is the world powers and leaders' duty to make efforts to stabilize the situation not to make chaos by their decisions.

Withdrawing from the nuclear deal, the US spoiled the multi-year efforts made by all other signatories to the deal, Zakharova said.

Only a negative impression is made by the action, she said.
