On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, a group of university students took over the US embassy in Tehran, which they believed had become a center of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran, and held 52 American diplomats for 444 days.
President Hassan Rouhani hailed massive turnout in 13 Aban rallies, saying that holding National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance is indicative of popular attachment to the Islamic Revolution.
“Glorious holding of National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance at a time when US enmities are escalating following its withdrawal from the JCPOA indicates popular attachment to the Islamic Revolution and its ideals,” Rouhani noted, adding, “The 13 Aban rallies showed that after a lapse of 40 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian people has still deep-rooted and unbreakable bond with the revolution’s ideals.”
Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli-Larijani said message of Aban 13 (November 4) nationwide rallies in Iran is that “our vigilant people are present in the arenas and preserve their independence and dignity.”
