IRNA � The Islamic Republic of Iran navy has dispatched 57 flotillas to far seas since 2007 to safeguard the country's national interests against piracy, said a navy commander.


Talking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran�s navy first zone in Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf Admiral Mojtaba Mohammadi said the 57th naval flotilla, which has been deployed from Chabahar to its destination in the Gulf of Aden, is currently doing its mission securing the sea lanes.

Mohammadi added that more flotills will be dispatched in the future.

He added the 56th naval flotilla docked in Bandar Abbas, in southern Iran, on Oct 10, 2018.

The 56th naval flotilla including destroyer Naqdi, logistic �Bushehr� navy ship, returned home after 65 days of sailing and traveling 8,782 Nautical miles.

He added over 250 operations have been performed since 2007 against pirates to provide more than 2,000 Iranian cargo ships and oil tankers with security in the region.
