Trump reportedly rejects invite to India amid rift over S-400 and Iran oil



Sputnik- White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has affirmed that Donald Trump received an invite to visit India in early August, though the final decision has not been announced yet.




US President Donald Trump has refused tovisit India asthe guest ofhonor forthe country's next Republic Day onJanuary 26, 2019, NDTV reported, citing unnamed sources.

According tothe sources, forthe last several weeks US officials have repeatedly made it clear, that the visit will be delayed.

The Indian Ministry ofForeign Affairs and the US Embassy inNew Delhi have not yet made any official statements onthe matter.

The information aboutTrump's refusal tovisit India has appeared amidlingering disagreements overa number ofissues betweenthe two countries, including the rejection ofIranian oil supplies, which Washington is actively trying toimpose onNew Delhi, aswell asRussian S-400 missile systems' deliveries toIndia, strongly disapproved ofbythe US.

US government officials have previously warned that India could face secondary sanctions if the country goes ahead withits decision topurchase S-400 systems fromRussia.

Earlier inOctober, the Organization ofthe Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo and India's Minister ofPetroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan held the third meeting ofthe OPEC-India Energy Dialogue discussing current developments inthe oil market amidIndia's concerns overhigh oil pricesthat reached $85 per barrel.
