president.ir - President condemned the heinous murder of a Saudi Arabian journalist and said that different countries’ stances towards his slaughter would be a great test for so-called advocates of human rights.

Speaking in a cabinet session on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani described Jamal Khashoggi’s murder a shocking incident and said, “Nobody would imagine that in today’s world, we witness such an organised murder and I don’t think without getting support from the United States a country would dare to commit such a crime”.

He added, “It seems that a tribe ruling a country is enjoying protection, and relies on a superpower to commit such a crime and that superpower supports them, not letting any court start to act against them”.

“How come a nation as great as Yemen has been under severe bombardment for years and the world is silent towards it? If it were not for US support, would the people of Yemen be under such savage bombardment?,” he continued.

Dr Rouhani also went on to call on the Turkish government to impartially investigate Khashoggi’s murder, saying, “All aspects of this crime, which is unprecedented in the recent decades, must be revealed to the world”.

He continued, “Committing such a crime indicates how a misguided belief system can lead to deviation, and this is the same way of thinking that has created terrorist groups like ISIS in the region”.

Stating that the crime is an example that makes the nature and reality of the group that is ruling the country home to the holy shrines clear, the President added, “There is no doubt that the United States, Europe and other countries’ stances towards the issue is the proof of how much they honour human rights and dignity”.

Dr Rouhani also said, "Without a doubt, what deserves more condemnation regarding this crime and its perpetrators is the power that has given them the courage for this crime".

“Today, it's clear to everyone in the world what kinds of regimes you are and on November 4, you also want to commit another crime and put pressure on a free, independent and great nation,” he continued.

The President added, “I hope that the peoples of the world will touch the facts as much as possible, and this is an opportunity to clarify the innocence of the people of Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, which are under pressure by the money of those criminals”.

Appreciating the Iraqi government for establishing peace and security for Arba’een pilgrims, he continued, “Last year, good coordination was made between the Iranian and Iraqi governments on completing Khorramshahr-Basrah railway, which I hope it will be put into operation in the current year”.
