president.ir – President of the Islamic Republic of Iran stressed, “Countries around the world supporting and protecting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not just supporting Iran, but supporting an agreement endorsed by the UN Security Council and peace and security in the Middle East”.
In a meeting with President Alain Berset of Switzerland on Wednesday in New York, President Hassan Rouhani described development of relations and cooperation between Iran and Switzerland in different political, economic and cultural fields important, adding, “The Iranian nation respect the government and people of Switzerland in a special way”.
Stating that good developments have been formed in deepening Tehran-Bern ties after the nuclear deal, Dr Rouhani added, “In the current situation, we all must work hard to safeguard the JCPOA as an important international agreement”.
“Despite the problems after US’ unilateral, unlawful withdrawal from the JCPOA, the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to adhere to it if the other signatories continue to stay committed to it,” continued Dr Rouhani.
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also underscored hard work and seriousness of the officials of the two countries in developing banking relations, continuing, “Fortunately, European countries have underlined in their statement coming after their latest meeting that an appropriate financial mechanism should be taken to continue develop relations and cooperation with Iran, which need more efforts”.
He also appreciated the Swiss President and nation’s condolences over the Ahwaz terrorist attack and said, “Iran is one of the greatest victims of terrorism and WMDs and all countries must be serious in the fight against terrorism and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to develop relations and cooperation with Switzerland in resolving regional and international issues, as well as delivering humanitarian help to the crisis-hit people of Yemen,” continued Rouhani.
At the same meeting, President Alain Berset of Switzerland offered condolences to the Iranian government and people on the terrorist attack in Ahwaz and said, “The Swiss government always supports the JCPOA and will work for protecting it”.
He also hailed Iran’s wise response to US’ unlawful withdrawal from the JCPOA and that Iran has completely lived up to its commitments, saying, “JCPOA was not just an agreement between some countries, but also UNSC resolution guarantees it, so we are responsible to safeguard Iran’s rights after US’ withdrawal”.
