JCPOA participants agree to develop payment channels to facilitate Iran's export



Sputnik - European Union will set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transactions with Iran to allow continued trade, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Federica Mogherini said after the ministerial meeting of JCPOA participant nations Monday.



"The JCPOA participants reconfirmed their commitment toits full and effective implementation ina good faith and ina constructive atmosphere," Mogherini said onMonday.


Reading the joint statement ofJoint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA) participant nations meeting, EU High Representative forForeign Affairs and Security Federica Mogherini said the group offive nations confirmed their commitment tothe deal, and stressed the importance ofdeveloping a payment mechanism tolet trade withIran continue inthe face ofreimposed US sanctions.

The participants UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and Iran also confirmed the importance ofprotection ofcompanies that conduct bysiness withTehran.
"Mindful ofthe urgency and the need fortangible results, the participants welcomed practical proposals tomaintain and develop payment channels, notably the initiative toestablish a special purpose vehicle tofacilitate payments related toIran's exports, including oil, and imports" Mogherini told reporters, speaking alongsideIran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.


"EU member states will set upa legal entity tofacilitate legitimate transactions withIran, which would allow European companies work withIran according toEuropean laws. It will also be open toother participants," she added.

She stressed that the decision toset upthe special purpose vehicle is already made.
"The participants recognized that Iran must continue tofully and effectively implement its nuclear commitments asconfirmed by12 consecutive reports bythe International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," Mogherini said.


"The participants equally highlighted the extensive work and substantial progress undertaken todate inintensification oftechnical dialogues, efforts tomaintain and improve bilateral economic relations and the mobilization onconsiderable resources byall including the third countries interested insupporting the JCPOA and pursuing ina timely and effective manner normalization oftrade and economic relations withIran," the joint statement reads.
