IRGC commander: Terrorist attack in Iran in line with ISIL actions in Iraq, Syria

FNA - Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Deputy Commander for Coordination Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said that the Saturday morning terrorist attack in Iran's Southwestern city of Ahwaz which killed and wounded tens of people was in line with ISIL's actions in Iraq and Syria.

"This issue (the terrorist attack in Ahwaz) does not show any power but it shows abjection and is another part of the ISIL acts in Iraq and Syria, martyring innocent people who are not in a defensive and military position," Rear Admiral Fadavi told FNA on Saturday.

He said that the real power is revealed when two known sides confront each other, and added Iran has defused a big plot against the region named the ISIL, and enemies are dismayed by this victory.

Four terrorists opened fire at bystanders during the Armed Forces' annual parades in Ahwaz city.

Various units of the Islamic Republic Army, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Law Enforcement Police and Basij (volunteer) forces staged nationwide parades in Tehran and other cities across the country on Saturday morning.

The parades marked the start of the Sacred Defense Week, commemorating Iranians' sacrifices during the 8 years of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s.

The parades started in Ahwaz city on 8:30 local time and 30 minutes later, four unidentified assailants fired bullets at the civilian crowd watching the ceremony.

The four terrorists also intended to attack the military commanders and officials on the podium but they were wounded by the security forces.

Spokesman of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier-General Abolfazl Shekarchi told FNA that 4 terrorists carried out the attack during military parades in Ahwaz, noting that three of them were killed and the last one was detained by security forces.

He added that none of the terrorists could run away from the security forces.
