FM Zarif to visit New York next week

ISNA - According to the predicted schedule, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will pay a visit to New York next week.

During the visit, Mr. Zarif is expected to accompany Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York if the president attends the meeting.

Mr. Zarif will likely participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

One of the most important schedules of Zarif during the visit is to attend a meeting between foreign ministers of Iran and the P4+1 group over the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and preserving the international deal.

He will also hold separate meetings with his counterparts and the senior officials of UN and EU as the previous years.

It seems that the main topics would be the JCPOA and reimposition of US sanctions against Iran.

Talk to a number of American media and deliver speeches at some of American think tanks are also among Zarifs agenda.

According to American officials, US President Donald Trump is slated to chair a United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East in September 26.

The United States holds the council presidency for September.

Iranian President is expected to address the UN General Assembly on September 25.
