Iranian president stresses enhanced ties with N. Korea

FNA – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined his country’s willingness to further broaden and strengthen all-out relations with North Korea.

President Rouhani made the remarks in a message to North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday to congratulate the country’s Foundation Day and the 70th anniversary of the 1948 foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

“I congratulate September 9th, North Korea National Day, and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Your Highness as well as the North Korean people”, he added.

Rouhani expressed the hope that through the resolve of the two countries’ top officials and by relying on existing capacities, Tehran-Pyongyang relations would continue to boost and strengthen in all fields.

In a relevant development in August, Iranian and North Korean top diplomats held a meeting in Tehran to discuss bilateral ties and other issues of mutual interest.

The meeting between Javad Zarif and Ri Yong Ho was held after the latter’s participation in ASEAN Regional Forum in Singapore last month.

A North-Korean delegation had also traveled to Iran last year to attend President Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony.
