Putin: Most important now is to kick terrorists out of Syria's Idlib



Sputnik - Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Erdogan and Iran's President Hassan Rouhani have held a trilateral summit, discussing the situation in the Syrian Idlib province as well as the trilateral ties.




According tothe Russian President Vladimir Putin, the priority now is toremove terrorists fromSyria's Idlib. At the same time, the Russian president noted that there was a lot ofopportunityfor peacemaking withthose inIdlib, who was ready fora dialogue.

The Russian president further noted thatthere is a large number ofcivilians inthe Syrian Idlib and this must be borne inmind when fighting terrorists.
"There is a large number ofcivilians inthe Idlib zone, and we certainly need tobear this inmind [when fighting terrorists]," Putin said atthe Russia-Iran-Turkey summit.


Speaking further,Putin said that conditions foraccommodation ofup toone million refugees were created inSyria, the authorities gave guarantees oftheir non-discrimination.
"Conditions have been created inSyria toaccommodate upto a million refugees. The government gives firm guarantees ofsecurity and non-discrimination toall returning citizens, including property issues," Putin said.


Putin says he agrees withhis Iranian and Turkish counterparts that the three countries should boost the trilateral coordination onthe humanitarian issues inSyria.

"Russia, Iran and Turkey believe that coordinated efforts aimed atimproving the humanitarian situation inSyria, restore its economy and infrastructure, address acute social problems play an important role," Putin said afterthe trilateral summit inTehran.

Erdogan onSyrian Issue

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, inhis turn, said thatthe trilateral Russia-Turkey-Iran summit onSyria inTehran is the last opportunity fora peaceful settlement ofthe situation inthe Syrian Idlib.
"Our goal is topeacefully solve the Idlib issue inaccordance withthe spirit ofthe agreements inAstana, this is the last opportunity toprove their reputation," Erdogan said atthe summit.


Speaking further, the Turkish president noted that the preservation ofIdlib'sstatus asa de-escalationzone was vitally important.
"Attacks onIdlib bythe Syrian regime worsen the situation inthe region. These attacks pose risks tothe political settlement inSyria. It is vitally important topreserve Idlib's status asa de-escalation zone. Any wrong steps inthis direction will be felt everywhere. The problem should be resolved inthe spirit ofAstana," Erdogan said.


Rouhani About Syria

At the same time,Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that cooperation betweenRussia, Iran and Turkey inSyria should continue untilthe complete defeat ofterrorism and establishment ofpeace inthis country.
"Our cooperation must continue untilthe end, untilterrorists are eliminated, untildemocracy is established inSyria, untilthe refugees return, untilthe peace is established," Rouhani said afterthe trilateral summit.


The situation inSyria's northwestern Idlib province, the last major insurgency stronghold, has become one ofthe key topics atthe summit. According tothe Kremlin, the terrorism hotbed inIdlib destabilizes the situation inSyria and undermines the work towardthe political settlement ofthe conflict.

Moreover, Russian officials have repeatedly warned that terrorists were planning a false-flag chemical weapons attack inIdlib withan aim toprovoke Western retaliation againstthe Syrian government.
