Moscow, Tehran, Ankara ultimately want put an end to war in Syria - Russian FM



Sputnik - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the end goals of Russia Turkey and Iran in Syria may differ at some aspects, but the countries ultimately want the Syrian conflict to end.




Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said inan interview that Moscow withits partners onthe so-called Astana group ofSyrian peace guarantors (Russia, Turkey and Iran) ultimately want put an end tothe war inSyria and make sure that Syrian people could decide their fate withoutan outsideinterference.

Lavrov also said onTuesday that the United States assured Russia that it would ensure the separation ofarmed opposition fromterrorists inSyria.

"Our partners, including US ones, assured us that they would ensure the separation ofthe so-called moderate opposition fromterrorists," Lavrov said onRussia's Channel One.

Previously, the Russian Foreign Minister said duringhis speech atthe Moscow State Institute ofInternational Relations that "there is no place forterrorists inSyria, and the Syrian government has every right toseek their liquidation onits territory." He stressed that it is necessary toseparate the armed opposition fromterrorists, noting that it is impossible totolerate the situation inSyria's Idlib province indefinitely.

The situation inIdlib is tense amidreports onterrorists preparing a false-flag chemical attack againstcivilians, set toprovoke western nations intolaunching a military action againstthe Syrian government

Idlib province is one ofSyria's de-escalation zones and a remaining stronghold ofinsurgency inthe country. Syrian President Bashar Assad said earlier that the liberation ofIdlib province was amongthe priorities forthe Syrian military's operations. Washington has been opposing the possible offensive bySyrian government inthe province: US President Donald Trump warned the Syrian government aswell asRussia and Iran earlier againstthe possible military operation inthe rebel-held territory.

Syrian Foreign ministerWalid Muallem said earlier that the warnings bythe United States would not affect the "determination ofthe Syrian people and Syrian armys plans toclear Idlib and finally put an end toterrorism inSyria."
