IRNA � The Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Sunday that Islamic Republic of Iran is the major factor in establishing security and stability in the region and is on the frontline of fighting terrorism and extremism.


He made the remarks in reaction to expression of concern by the US secretary of state over his empty claim that Iran was supplying missiles to Iraq.

The US secretary�s concern about shipment of missiles to Iraq and violation of UN Security Council�s Resolution 2231 is really ridiculous and deception of public opinion, as it cites a resolution that has nothing to do with such unfounded claims.

Strange to say that the US itself has violated the resolution, he said.

Stressing the need for the US no to interfere in Iraq�s internal affairs, Qasemi said that US military presence in the region is the major factor of instability and insecurity in the region while Iran has greatly contributed to the regional peace and stability.

�Today, Iran-Iraq ties are the best and divisive policies cannot block the two countries� historic, cultural and political relations,� he said.

Rejecting transfer of missiles from Iran to Iraq as baseless, Qasemi said that that is an empty and ridiculous claim.
