UK's altered stance toward Iran could curb profitable Brexit deal - Economist

Sputnik - The USs Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Robert Wood Johnson, has called for Britain to join US President Donald Trump and adopt a hardline policy towards Iran.

Earlier inMay, Donald Trump pulled outof the deal and last week began reinstating economic sanctions againstIran that were eased inexchange forconcessions onIran's nuclear program. Sputnik spoke toDr Mamdouh Salameh, International Oil Economist, aboutthis story formore insight onthe issue.

Sputnik: Essentially, will Britain follow suit withAmerica and pull outof the Iran Nuclear Deal?

Dr Mamdouh Salameh:I dont think so. While the UK has a history ofkowtowing withthe US underthe false claim ofspecial relations, a change ofstance onthe Iran nuclear deal, will not only damage the UKs standing inthe world butwill also make it far difficult toconclude a profitable Brexit deal withthe EU.
Furthermore it could promote public descent againstsuch a move. Moreover if the UK would withdraw fromthe Iran Nuclear Deal it will be joining the other two countries againstthe deal, mainly Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Sputnik: If Britain was tofollow the US; what effect would this have onthe nuclear deal?

Dr Mamdouh Salameh:If the UK were towithdraw fromsuch a deal, it will impact its international relations withother countries and remember that the overwhelming countries are forthe deal because the alternative forthe deal is war betweenthe US and Iran egged onby Israel.

Furthermore, if it deteriorates the relations betweenthe UK and other countries it will definitely effect trade relations betweenthe UK and the rest ofthe world.

Sputnik: Moreover if Britain pulled out, what effect would this have onrelations betweenthe rest ofthe world and the UK?

Dr Mamdouh Salameh:The UK is respected inthe world forits policies, normally;
However, it has been known that it has been kowtowing tothe US forsome time now underthe false claim ofspecial relations betweenthe two countries.

The UK is ready todefend its rights and interests, inthis case withthe US toaccede tothe urge or request bythe US toleave the Iran Nuclear deal.

It will damage relations withother countries and make it absolutely difficult forthe UK toreach an agreement withthe EU onBrexit and furthermore it will belittle the UK inthe eyes ofother countries; they will say Look, it is a nuclear power country, a security council member and still kowtowing tothe US asif it was a small country.
