Zarif rejects Trump admin claim of supporting Iranians

IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message dismissed US Administration’s pretentious care for the Iranian people.

“Trump Administration wants the world to believe it’s concerned about the Iranian people,” Zarif wrote in his Twitter account on Monday.

“Yet the very first sanctions it reimposed have canceled licenses for sales of 200+ passenger jets under absurd pretexts, endangering ordinary Iranians. US hypocrisy knows no bounds,” he added.

After Washington’s May 8 exit from the landmark Iran Deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the US gave 90 to 180 wind-down period to other countries before it starts re-imposing oil sanctions on Tehran on November 4. Part of the US illegitimate sanctions are to be imposed on Iran as of August 9.

Trump also said he would reinstate the US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

This is while, Trump said earlier he is willing to meet with Iran’s leadership, without preconditions, ‘whenever they want’.

‘I would certainly meet with Iran if they wanted to meet,’ Trump was quoted by CNN as saying.

‘No preconditions,’ he added. ‘They want to meet, I’ll meet, whenever they want.’

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
