Iran not to be affected by US sanctions: Turkey's Erdogan

IRNA - Iran, contrary to the US assumption, did not collapse after the sanctions, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, adding that Washington's new anti-Iran measures will not work.

President Erdogan who had attended the 10th BRICS summit in South Africa made the remarks upon arriving in Ankara on Sunday.

The comments were in reference to the US sanctions re-imposed on Iran after Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal in May.

He has also expressed Turkey's support for Iran before leaving Ankara for Johannesburg.

Erdogan described Iran as a strategic partner that shares many interests with its neighbor, Turkey.

Turkish officials have repeated their support for Iran in the face of the US sanctions.

The US has pressed his allies to halt their oil imports from Iran by November.

Iran's oil made up for 55 percent of Turkey's crude supplies in the first four months of 2018.
