IRNA - Sweden's permanent representative to the UN says Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's visits to Switzerland and Austria as two European states would be effective in augmenting mutual understanding and Saving the JCPOA.


European countries favors preserving and implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and they will try to save the international pact, Olof Skoog told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in New York.

He said the JCPOA was important for the stability of the region and the world as well as the regime of the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, adding however that there are concerns about Iran's regional activities and human rights which can be addressed during the Iranian president's meetings.

The Iranian president traveled to Switzerland Monday and was welcomed by his Swiss counterpart Alain Berset at the Zurich international airport.

Rouhani held talks with President Berset and had a meeting with a group of Iranians residing in Switzerland. Signing several documents on political, economic and cultural cooperation is also on the agenda.
The Iranian president is scheduled to leave for Vienna Tuesday afternoon for talks with the Austrian president and chancellor.

Before his departure for Switzerland, the Iranian President urged Europe to stand against the US unilateralism following Washington's withdrawal from the JCPOA.
Today, Europe would show its opposition against the US unilateralism with louder voice and would state its readiness to cooperate with Iran and other influential countries on the regional and international issues explicitly, President Hassan Rouhani told reporters.

The President referred to Russia, China, France, Germany, the UK and the whole European countries' opposition against the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, and said that these countries feel that saving the JCPOA is at the interest of the region and the world and condemned the Washington move.
