Iranian presidents chief of staff sees possible cabinet reshuffle

Tasnim The Iranian presidents Chief of Staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, raised the possibility that there would be some changes in the countrys cabinet posts in the future.

We will have some changes in the cabinet, Vaezi told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday.

This administration will have changes in the cabinet for the sake of dynamism, but it is up to the president and I do not know when it will happen, he added.

The official further refused to confirm that Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi would be replaced, saying that President Hassan Rouhani will decide on the cabinet reshuffle.

Noting that the president has asked his ministers to talk to the people, Vaezi added that Rouhani will address the people in a meeting with his administrations officials later today.

The reports about cabinet reshuffle came after a special meeting was held by the administrations officials to control the fall of the national currency.

The Iranian rial plunged to a record low against the US dollar on the unofficial market on Sunday.

The dollar was being offered for as much as 87,000 rials, compared to around 75,500 on Thursday, the last trading day before Irans weekend, according to foreign exchange websites, which track the unofficial market.

The collapse of the national currency has provoked a public outcry over the quick rise of prices of imported consumer goods.
