MNA � Iran's Army Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said on Thursday that Kharg helicopter carrier has resumed operations after undergoing major repairs.

It has been some years since Kharg had been put out of commission due to the need for some vital repairs, he added.

Kharg is a stable and great carrier which is suitable for remote missions of the Navy, the commander said, adding, �certainly, if there is a mission in Atlantic Ocean, Kharg helicopter carrier will be the main option for deployment.�

Propulsion system and some underwater parts of Kharg were repaired and reconstructed by Iranian specialists, he highlighted, adding that England has the required technology for this but they didn�t provide Iran with any information or equipment in this regard.

The Khalq helicopter carrier, along with Sabalan destroyer, began its mission on Wednesday in the Aden Gulf, the northern Indian Ocean, and the Strait of Bhalbamand.

The ship is the largest of its kind in West Asia and named after Iran�s Kharg Island. Being 679.5 feet long, she was originally built in Britain by Swan Hunter 1976-1978.
