Leader pardons, commutes sentences of 537 convicts

MNA Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei has pardoned or commuted the sentences of a number of Iranian convicts on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.


Ayatollah Khamenei on Thursday agreed to a request by Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani to pardon or reduce the sentences of 537 eligible inmates convicted by courts of common pleas, theIslamic Revolution tribunals, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.

The pardon comes on the advent ofEid al-Fitr,which is one of the main Muslim holidays, concludingthe fasting month of Ramadan. Muslims in Asia and a number of Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, willcelebratethe Eid-al-Fitr religious holiday on Friday and Saturday.
