Italian major seeks toehold in Iran petchem projects

SHANA - Italy's Saipem has signaled readiness to join petrochemical projects in Iran.

Senior executive from Italy's energy major Saipem voiced the company's willingness to join Iran's petrochemical projects in a meeting with the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) in Milan.

Meeting with the CEO of Iran's National Petrochemical Company (NPC) on the sidelines of Milan's PLAST 2018, Saipem officials said they were interested in cooperating with Iranian petrochemical companies against feared re-imposition of US sanctions on Tehran after Washington's pullout of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal Iran clinched with the P5+1 group of countries back in 2015.

Reza Norouzzadeh, NPC CEO, met Saipem director on the sidelines of the exhibition in Italy.

Cooperation with such petrochemical companies in Iran as Tabriz, Kermanshah and Pars for improved and enhanced production capacity was one of the main issues NPC and Saipem officials discussed during the meeting held in Milan on May 30.

Moreover, cooperation in new development and refinery projects as well as licensing agreements in various petrochemical facilities in Iran were considered during the meeting.

The Italian company indicated its willingness and readiness to join the projects in Iran.

Since 1950, Saipem has been regarded as an oil and gas contractor and runs bran offices in over 60 countries.
