Iran united, integrated against Trump policies: Envoy

IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador in London Hamid Baeidinejad said on Monday that Iran is standing united and integrated against US President Donald Trump’s new policies.

In reaction to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s anti-Iran statements, he wrote in his Instagram account that researchers and international security studies think tanks immediately after Pompeo’s speech described US policies against Iran as illusion which will never be realized.

Pompeo claimed that Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was bad for the world and the US, saying that it failed to end Iran’s ambitious and domineering policies, as they want to move beyond the Middle East.

Iran should set aside enrichment and should not seek heavy water reactor, Pompeo said, noting that Iran should allow inspections across the country by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) freely.

Baeidinejad said in this respect that the Trump administration has been trying over the past one and half a years to cover up its hatred of the JCPOA and mask it under words such as modification of JCPOA ‘in certain fields’. But today he speaks of zero enrichment, as if he has reached end of the line.

“Enrichment is the most significant achievement of the JCPOA and a basic theme in it and it was only shift in Obama administration’s policy regarding enrichment which marked beginning of the talks on JCPOA,’ he said.

It is impossible to make amendments to the JCPOA in the absence of enrichment, as the deal has been compiled on the basis of enrichment, he said.

Instead of declaring new policies, Trump displayed US’ arrogant nature, Baeidinejad said, noting that Iran categorically rejects new US administration’s policies.
