Iran relationship with Muqtada Sadr friendly, brotherly

IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi said on Monday that Iranian officials’ relations with Muqtada Sadr are friendly and brotherly.

He made the remarks in response to a question over claims on disputes between the Islamic Republic and Muqtada Sadr, rejecting such claims.

Congratulating Saeroun Coalition on winning the largest number of seats in the fourth Iraqi parliamentary election, he said, “Seyyed Muqtada Sadr is one of the dear and influential friends and brothers in our neighboring and friendly Iraq.”

Iran’s ties with Muqtada Sadr were historic and deep-rooted, as the country has had profound relations with the two noble martyrs Seyyed Mohammad Baqer Sadr and Seyyed Mohammad Sadeq Sadr (his father and uncle), he said.

Iran welcomes and supports the Iraqi people’s resolve in electoral turnout and congratulates parties that won seats in the parliament, he said.

Iran has excellent and friendly ties with the Iraqi people from all walks of life, he said, noting that it has also constructive relations with all the Iraqi parties and alliances winning most seats in the fourth parliamentary election, as all of them are “our dear and good brothers”.

Masjedi made the remarks amid claims that there are disputes between Iran and Sadr’s coalition and attribution of certain statements to him.
