IRNA The European Union top energy official is heading to Iran for talks on energy cooperation.
The Euronews website said on Thursday that EU Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete is heading to Iran.
The visit is scheduled for May 18-20, according to Euronews.
The news outlet said that it will be a 'gesture from the EU that it wants to stay engaged despite the US withdrawal.'
The move comes following recent visit by Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif to Europe. The visit was aimed at saving the international nuclear deal.
