Iran, Russia discuss Syria

IRNA Senior Advisor to Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Russian President Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in a meeting in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, on Monday considered the latest political situation in Syria.


Iran's senior negotiator in Astana Peace Talks Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev in a meeting held talks in the framework of the 9th round of Astana Talks and following recent meeting of foreign ministers of the two countries in Moscow and new military developments in Syria as well as following up approvals of Syria National Dialogue in Sochi and the second meeting of committee to exchange detainees, kidnapped and disappeared in Syrian crisis held talks.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin was present in the meeting.

A delegation from the United Nations as observer is participating in the talk process headed by Staffan de Mistura.

Already eight rounds of talks have been held in Astana by participation of Iranian, Russian and Turkish delegations.

In some of the meetings, Syrian armed opposition groups participated as well.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Alexander Lavrentiev and Sedat Onal are senior negotiators from Iran, Russia and Turkey in Astana Talks.

The three countries in Astana Talks framework have achieved important results; including creation of four reduce tension regions in Syria and holding ceasefire.

Astana Talks is the sole international initiative that shown its efficiency in settling Syrian crisis.
