Sputnik - The Israeli opposition thinks that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should stop making publicized "empty" accusations against Iran and its nuclear program and instead calls for re-negotiations over the fate of the the Iran nuclear deal, Ksenia Svetlova, an opposition member of the Israeli parliament, told Sputnik on Monday.

"We believe there is no alternative tothe Iran nuclear agreement, however, [we] see the need torenegotiate some ofits terms. If some weaknesses can be fixed througha dialogue withIran, we should focus onthat. Israel is not a party tothis agreement, butif we can provide our friends, both inEurope and inRussia, withobjective information, then we should focus onthat instead ofmaking publicized empty statements that Iran is preparing a nuclear bomb," Svetlova said.

She underlined that the situation inthe region was already complicated byIrans intensified attempts togain a foothold inSyria inclose proximity tothe Israeli border.

The lawmaker also stressed that the Israeli opposition and some inthe country's military intelligence feared that the United States pulling outof the deal would raise the specter ofarmed conflict inthe region.
"Netanyahu is fixed onthe idea ofconvincing Trump topull outof the deal. Professionals inIsrael, who are familiar withthis issue, including inthe opposition and people fromthe military intelligence, ona daily basis raise concerns overa possible withdrawal [from the Iran nuclear deal] ofthe United States stressing it may lead toincreased military tension and the likelihood ofmilitary clashes inthe region," she said.

The statement refers toNetanyahu's announcement made onThursday, claiming thatIsrael had obtained 100,000 paper and digital documents, which, he said, irrefutably prove that Iran's nuclear program had a secret military component, codenamed "Project Amad." This declaration was made shortly beforea May 12 deadline, when US President Donald Trump todecide whether or not Washington will remain a party tothe nuclear agreement.

Following Netanyahus statement onIran's nuclear weapons ambitions despitethe 2015 nuclear deal, Russia called onIsrael toimmediately give information onIran continuing its nuclear program tothe International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which previously refrained fromcomments onIsraels findings. However, according toEU High Representative forForeign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Israel has not called intoquestion Iran's compliance withpost-2015 nuclear commitments.
