Trump's decision on Iran Deal not made: UK envoy to US

IRNA The messages heard from the White House signifies that although US President Donald Trump's views on the deal are very clear, a final decision has 'not yet been taken', British Ambassador to the United States Sir Kim Darroch told US media.

'The president is rightly concerned about Iran's regional activities, which are malign and damaging to security and stability. And he doesn't like the fact that ballistic missiles aren't covered. He's not happy about the sunset clauses, he thinks the inspections regime should be tougher,' Darroch told CBS on Sunday.

Darroch noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a 'good deal' but 'not a perfect deal.'

'We have ideas we think that we can find some language, produce some action that meets the president's concerns.'

Darroch said that senior officials of the UK, France, and Germany have been negotiating with the US regarding the agreement and 'making progress', though Trump continues to weigh whether the United States formally withdraws from the pact.

Darroch said that British Prime Minister Theresa May spoke with the president and congratulated him on progress being made in North Korea but said messages were being heard from 'all contacts in the administration' on where the Iran deal currently stands.

Trump has publicly slammed the deal several times, calling it 'the worst deal'.

On the May 12 deadline for the US to decide whether to stay in the internationally accepted deal or 'tear' it. Trump is trying to shred the UNSC-confirmed deal while the international Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly announced that Iran has been loyal to its commitments.

President Hassan Rouhani and other Iranian officials have since warned that the US would face 'grave' consequences if they decided to pull out the deal.

Darroch also criticized Iran's 'malign' activities and accused Iran of 'damaging the security and stability' of the region, while, according to Iranian officials, Tehran has undoubtedly been a pioneer in fighting the US-made terrorism in the region.

US former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Trump's rival in the presidential election has confessed in her memoirs that they have played a role in creating, developing and establishing the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) and supporting them.

The Iranian government has already announced that Iran's military presence in Iraq and Syria to fight terrorism is due to the two countries' demand.
