IRNA � Iran has played a substantial role in fighting terrorism, a former Iraqi official said on Monday.

Iraq's former Vice-President and its former Oil Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi in a meeting with Iran's ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi said that the role of Iran's support for the war on terrorism in Iraq was very important.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, pointed to the cultural, historical and religious links between the two nations, and said that Iran is ready to continue its support for Iraq during the post-Daesh (ISIS) and reconstruction era in Iraq.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the region.

Iraq's upcoming parliamentary election that will be held on May 12 was also another topic of talks in the meeting.
