FNA - Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanayee underlined that Tehran and Moscow now see bright prospects for technical and military cooperation after their joint campaign against terrorism in Syria.

"The two states have had technical and military cooperation since past and the delivery of S-300 (missile defense) system was a milestone in the defense and military interactions between them," Sanayee said.

"Iran-Russia cooperation in the war on terrorists in Syria paved a proper ground for the development of technical and military cooperation between the two countries," he added.

Sanayeed, meantime, said that Tehran has had no talks with Moscow on the supply of Russia's powerful S-400 missile defense shield.

After the removal of sanctions against Tehran following the 2015 nuclear deal, Russia delivered S-300 air defense systems to Iran under the existing contract.

Iran designed and developed its own version of the S-300 missile shield after the Russians shrugged off delivery of their advanced missile defense system to Iran on the pretext of the UN Security Council sanctions before the nuclear deal.

The Iranian version has superior features over the original Russian model as it enjoys increased mobility, agility and reduced launch-preparation time.

Iranian commanders have said that Bavar 373 is similar to its original Russian model and traces and intercepts high-altitude targets.
