April 5, The Iran Project - Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Tuesday (April 3) where he and Iran's President Hassan Rouhani were set to take part in a tripartite summit on Syria.

Turkey�s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin also attended in the tripartite summit which held on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Zarif said the Syrian people have shattered the myth of invincibility of the Israeli regime through their resistance against Tel Aviv�s acts of aggression during past years.

�In the time between, very important parts of Syria have been freed from terrorists, especially near the capital and it is important that it was done with the least of casualties and loss of lives,� noted the Iranian foreign minister.

The Iranian foreign minister stated that foreign countries should accelerate the process of the settlement of the Syria crisis through political channels instead of making decisions for the Syrian people, drawing up the Arab country's constitution, and provoking the negotiating sides.

Russia, Iran and Turkey have been acting as guarantor states in peace talks for Syria in Astana, Kazakhstan. The three countries have helped set up de-escalation zones across Syria to reduce fighting on the ground.

Meanwhile, Iranian FM in a Twitter message released on Wednesday denounced US President Donald Trump's attempts to undermine national unity in Syria, saying that, �Meanwhile, 'milking' continues unabated. Confirmed today: President Trump demands additional $4B from Daesh financiers to keep uninvited US troops in Syria.�

�Anything to reverse successes against extremists and undermine Syrian national unity,� he added.

Zarif in another Twitter message released the same day hailed Turkey tour achievements and wrote:�Crucial summit today with Turkey and Russia. Joint renewal of commitment to sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and non-sectarian character of Syria.�

�Building on the achievements of Astana and Sochi to secure lasting cease-fires and advance political process,� he noted.

Following his visit to Turkey, Zarif arrived in Baku on Wednesday to attend NAM meeting.

Azerbaijan will host the Mid-Term Ministerial Conference of NAM on April 5-6, in Baku. The meeting will be held after the senior officials meeting on the 3rd and the 4th of April under the theme �Promoting International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development.�
