UN secretary-general offers condolences over passenger plane crash in Iran



Sputnik - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed condolences over the crash of a passenger plane in Iran's central Isfahan province, the official's Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in statement late on Sunday.



The Secretary-General was deeply saddened tolearn ofthe tragic airplane accident today nearYasuj, Iran The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences tothe families ofthe victims and tothe people and Government ofthe Islamic Republic ofIran, the statement, attributed toGuterres, read.


On Sunday, theplanecarrying 60 passengers and six crew members crashed nearthe city ofSemirom duringa flight fromTehran tothe southwestern city ofYasuj. All people onboard died inthe accident, according tomedia reports.

The EU External Action Service (EEAS) has also offered condolences overthe accident.

Today's planeaccidentinIran caused the loss ofa high number oflives In these difficult hours, the European Union sends its deepest condolences tothe families ofthe victims and their loved ones, Catherine Ray, the EEAS spokeswoman, said instatement.

A number ofother European officials, such asItalian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano and the German Foreign Ministry, amongothers, have expressed support tothe families ofvictims.
