IRNA � An Intelligence Ministry agent was martyred in an armed conflict with insurgent groups in mid-south province of Yazd, Intelligence Directorate General of the province announced on Friday.


The officer was killed in an operation to chase insurgent bands and narcotics smugglers in Khatam deserts, it said.

Traffickers use Yazd province roads to smuggle narcotics from the eastern, southern, and southeastern parts of the country to the center and other regions in Iran.

The security forces of the province discover significant amounts of narcotics and smuggled items every month.
