IRNA – EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Tuesday discussed with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres a wide range of issues including the implementation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal with G5+1.
According to a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the meeting took place on the sidelines of an international conference on Iraq’s reconstruction in Kuwait City.
The two sides discussed various issues such as implementation of the Iran nuclear deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Libya’s situation and Korea peninsula, the statement said.
Mogherini and Guterres also exchanged views on the Syria crisis with both reiterating the need to support UN-led mediation efforts in this regard. They also underlined the importance of supporting Iraq politically at this crucial juncture.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mogherini held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Kuwait City on the reconstruction of Iraq and implementation of the JCPOA.
Zarif who is in Kuwait to take part in the international conference is scheduled to a deliver a speech on Wednesday.
