Iran FM: Trump seeking to kill JCPOA

IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said late on Monday that US President Donald Trump is very dissatisfied with the JCPOA and is attempting to find ways to kill the deal.

In a televised speech themed Irans Regional and International Relations, he added The US is trying to distort realities but the JCPOA is part of the UN resolution 2231.

In the wake of the JCPOA, Iran can sell its oil easily and receive its money, he said, noting that the landmark deal removed restrictions faced by Iran in the pre-JCPOA era.

Today, we sell over 2.5 million barrels of oil and have no restrictions in selling it, he said.

Hawkish US President has vowed to ditch the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement as it does not accommodate Irans missile program and regional clout.

The only deal Trump has failed to damage is JCPOA, as he is determined to eliminate whatever left behind by his predecessor Barack Obama, Zarif said.
While campaigning for White House, he said that his priority was to rip up the deal but after 390 days in office he has not managed to do so, Irans top diplomat said.

Zarif also said that when Trump wanted to visit the region, he said that he intends to milk the regional states, noting that they cannot do the same with Iran and thats why that they are against the Islamic Republic.

We did not expect the US to show good will and we have mentioned that all the parties to the JCPOA should work with good intention, he said.

Elsewhere in his speech, Zarif said that Iran boasts of good chances in Iraq, as its companies have been operating in that country for years.

Hoping that reconstruction of Syria would gain momentum with the uprooting of the terrorist groups, Zarif said that grounds are prepared for Iran and Russia to engage in the country's reconstruction.
