February 5, The Iran Project - Hawkish US President Donald Trump has recently called for a more restrictive nuclear deal and new constraints on Tehran's missile development and regional clout, issues that are not covered by the agreement.

This is while, under the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran got relief from international sanctions in return for curbs on its nuclear program.

The move is strongly criticized by several Iranian diplomats including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian ambassador to France Abolqasem Delfi and the Islamic Republic's Ambassador to Spain Mohammad Hassan Fadaei-Fard.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said Washington's reliance on nuclear arms violates the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Zarif tweeted on Saturday (Feb. 3) that, �The US Nuclear Posture Review reflects greater reliance on nukes in violation of the NPT, bringing humankind closer to annihilation. No wonder the Doomsday Clock is at its most dangerous since 1953.Trump�s obduracy in killing the JCPOA stems from the same dangerous imprudence.�

On Friday (Feb. 2), Washington unveiled its Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), a new nuclear arms policy that purportedly aims to revamp the US nuclear arsenal and develop new low-yield atomic weapons.

The policy effectively ends efforts under the administration of former President Barack Obama to reduce the size and scope of the US arsenal and minimize the role of nuclear weapons in defense planning, outlining the Pentagon's nuclear ambitions under President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Delfi in an interview with France 3 in Paris said the US, as one side of the July 2015 nuclear deal, has changed its way and "swims against the current".

"Fortunately, the other sides including France have been committed to the deal and declared there is no way to change the JCPOA,"� Delfi noted, adding that all should be loyal to the JCPOA.

In the meantime, Fadaei-Fard said that Trump�s renewed attack on JCPOA is aimed at making European companies afraid of entering the Iranian market.

JCPOA is an international pact endorsed by the UN Security Council and the international community including EU, therefore, any change and renegotiation of the deal is impossible, he stated.

Describing Iran�s missile capability as a major pillar of its national defense strategy with a defensive and deterrent nature, Fadaei-Fard said given ongoing threats against Iran�s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, any talks about Iran�s missile program are unlikely.
