Iran following up sunken tanker case

IRNA The sunken Iranian oil tanker Sanchi's case is one of the main priorities of the Ports and Maritime Organization, an official said on Monday.

All issues regarding the case will be followed up seriously, Ali Akbar Marzban said. 'Different bodies including the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), Ports and Maritime Organization and Iran Navy forces acted in a coordinated way in the sad accident.'

He also referred to Iran, China, Hong Kong and Panama as countries involved in the case.

A sum of 30 Iranian and two Bangladeshi sailors, who were all crew members of the Sanchi, were killed because of the toxic gases and the huge fire which embraced the tanker after the ship collided with a Chinese freighter in the East China Sea on January 6.

All the rescue efforts were in vain and the oil tanker sank on January 14.

The bodies of three crew members of the Iranian oil tanker have been identified based on DNA tests, according to a report by the secretariat of the committee to investigate the oil tanker incident.
