January 31, The Iran Project Recently, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari traveled to the Syrian capital Damascus ( Jan. 27)and the Russian resort city of Sochi(Jan. 29) to review the latest developments in the region, Syria crisis in particular.

While in Damascus, Jaberi Ansari held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Talking to Jaberi Ansari, al-Assad said Syria with the help of friends, especially Iran and Russia, is still fighting terrorism.

"We are after paving the way to find suitable solution to Syrian crisis and for the Syrian people to hold their fate in their hands,"al- Assad stated.

Meanwhile, Jaberi Ansari stressed on Iran's support for Syrian people and government in fighting terrorism, trying to bring back stability to Syria and also its role in reconstructing Syria.

Threats caused by Turkey attack to Syria, crimes against Syrian people, the way to fight aggression and preventing them to reach their goals were among other topics discussed by both sides.

Jaberi Ansari's stop in Sochi witnessed his participation in the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue and meeting with Russian President's Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev.

Top Iranian and Russian diplomats conferred on latest developments in Syria in the black sea resort of Sochi.

Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev discussed the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue during their meeting on Monday, as well.

He also took part a meeting which was attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, head of Turkish delegation Sedat Onal and UN special envoy for Syrian affairs Stefan de Mistura.

In the meantime, Lavrov discussed mechanism of holding the congress with Jaber Ansari, Onal and de Mistura.

Lastly, Syria National Dialogue Congress wrapped up in Sochi late on Tuesday adopting a 12-point statement outlining the Syrians view on their countrys future.

As per the statement, Syria should preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its future can be determined only by the people of Syria in elections.

The Syrians also requested the UN Secretary General to assist in organizing the work of the constitutional committee, whose mandate will be outlined as part of the Geneva reconciliation process.
