MPs to visit Evin prison Jan 28

IRNA – Some members of the Majlis (Parliament) legal and judicial, and national security and foreign policy commissions will visit Evin prison in Tehran on January 28.

Spokesman for Majlis Legal and Judicial Commission Hassan Norouzi told IRNA on Sunday that the preplanned visit aims to pursue issues surrounding the fate of those detained during recent unrests.

“I and Chairman of Majlis Legal and Judicial Commission Allahyar Malekshahi together with some members of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission will be among the visitors to Evin prison,” he said.

Today, Head of Majlis Omid Fraction Mohammad Reza Aref announced the judicial apparatus’ approval of the visit.

Second Vice Speaker of the Parliament Ali Motahhari has earlier declared that a six-man Majlis delegation would visit Evin prison.

The demonstrations in Iran started over economic hardships but quickly turned violent with reported attacks on government buildings and police stations.
